Neat authentic bakery. It doesn't get any homier than this for a bakery. The bread is real good too!! It wasn't Saturday so I didn't have the pastries. Wood fired bakery.

Just moved back to the states from France. As a newbie to Maine, this was a real treat!! It was about 4:30pm and already dark outside. We walked into a dark doorway next to an 'Open' sign. Then to the right, above some steps, see another door with a soft light coming through it with a sign saying "come on in" (or something like that).. Arrive to a wonderful smell of bread and a wood-fired oven. But nobody there... We wait for 3 or so minutes.. I knock on another door in the room connected to the house.. Nobody answers.. Then I try calling... goes to voicemail.. then I go outside and ask the fellows working outside "Where do I go to get the bread as nobody is there?" He starts to show me where to go, explaining, "here, you choose what you want and drop cash in the box, there is change in there if you need it"..I replied, "oh ok, I saw the tin and I know where to go, so thank you, have a nice evening" he wished me the same and I went back into the shop. We didn't know which bread to get as they all looked amazing, we picked up the 'Tuscan' loaf for $4.00. It's a great bread, warm to touch, crispy exterior with a nice chew.. Super excited to find this bakery!! Def the only place we'll be buying our bread from!! In France, you'll find old villages with a stone oven open to the public. They're not in use anymore but were there for locals to bake their own foods!! And of course, many villagers baked their breads in them. Always wondered what that bread would taste like.. Now I know and I love it! Thank you other google reviewers for your reviews, without them, I wouldn't have discovered this place! Very happy NEW customer! Thank you Black Crow Bakery! Looking forward to trying all of your breads!
